Technology developments and the impact on Compliance
Diego Vargas is international consultant in compliance and forensic investigations, and currently is Forensic Services Manager at PwC Colombia. Professional with more than 15 years of experience in audit and consulting services focused on ethics & compliance programs; fraud and economic crimes investigations; anti-bribery & corruption programs; AML/CFT programs; cyber-investigations; computer forensics; e-discovery; internal controls; risk assessment and management. Diego is international speaker, university lecturer and founding member of ACIEC - Colombian Association of Integrity, Ethics and Compliance. He is systems engineer with postgraduate studies in Finance and a MBA with emphasis in Economic Crime and Fraud Management. He currently holds three professional designations: CISA - Certified Information Systems Auditor, CEDS – Certified E-Discovery Specialist, and CSM - Certified Scrum Master.
Gonzalo Caro a Data Protection Manager at the Office of the Data Protection Officer (ODPO) in Facebook Ireland for the past two years. Prior to joining Facebook, Gonzalo worked at Microsoft Ireland for 17 years where he had a number of roles in the areas of Data Protection, Risk Management and Compliance. In recent years, Gonzalo has focused his work on Governance and Accountability frameworks, Operationalising Risk methodologies and Culture of Compliance. Gonzalo is also a Committee member of the DPO Tech Network and of the ACOI Data Protection & Information Security working group. Gonzalo holds a BA (Hons) in Business Management through Dublin Business School and also completed studies in Philosophy and Logic in his native Badajoz (Spain). Gonzalo is a Certified Data Protection Officer (CDPO) from University College Dublin and Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/E, CIPM) through the IAPP.

Rianne Potgieter is a Chartered Accountant (SA) and Compliance Professional (SA). During her 27-year career in banking she filled various senior management roles in business, finance, risk management, internal audit and compliance. She ran her own compliance consulting firm for 7 years before being appointed as the CEO of the Compliance Institute Southern Africa on 2 July 2018. She is passionate about compliance, the youth and education and have started various initiatives since joining, which provide opportunities to those starting out in compliance as well as senior compliance officers who wish to progress further.
Rachel Woolley is Global Director of Financial Crime at Fenergo. Rachel has over 10 years’ experience in the Financial Services industry having worked primarily in the funds industry and retail banking. She has a strong background in regulatory compliance, particularly in the areas of anti-money laundering and counter terrorist financing (AML/CTF). Rachel holds a BSc (Hons) Degree in Applied Accounting from the Oxford Brookes University and is currently undertaking a MSc in Compliance. She has also successfully completed the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) exams and currently holds four professional designations; Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), Licentiate of the Association of Compliance Officers in Ireland (LCOI), Certified Financial Crime Prevention Practitioner (CFCPP) and Certified Data Protection Officer (CDPO).

Barbara Sharp is a strategic and crisis communicator who’s advised boards and CEOs on some of the toughest public affairs conflicts in the Asia-Pacific region. Her work has spanned the jungles of Papua New Guinea to the forests of Tasmania (Australia) as companies sought to recover their social licence to operate in the face of fast-changing attitudes to corporate behaviour and their reputational and business continuity consequences. She now leads the team at Plaetos Group, a technology company that build products that are digitising the most powerful strategic communication and conflict resolution nous from that 30 year career. Plaetos is virtual roundtable platform purpose-built for insightful discussions at a very large scale, and PlaetosEQ is a data analytics and story vizualisation platform that processes ad surfaces the human emotional insights gleaned from large-scale, interactive conversations on Plaetos, and other conversational data soruces. Barbara started as a journalist, crossed over to politics and then political and strategic communication consulting, and finally her own consulting company, Pax Populus. Pax Populus’ work was chiefly in designing and overseeing implementation of large-scale multi-stakeholder dialogue processes for resolving and highstakes conflicts over major projects in mining, infrastructure, energy (e.g. windfarm developments). It also included designing a large-scale informed consensus model for garnering community consent for the roll-out of field trials for the Gates Foundation-funded World Mosquito Program. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (English & Literature), is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD), a former member of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), the Australian Institute of Management (AIM) and International Association of Public Participation (IAP2). Barbara is an alumna of The Cranlana Programme for ethical leadership, and the Springboard Enterprises accelerator for female founders, and a former a director of the iconic social change organisation, Igniting Change.
Richard Rattue - Originally from the U.K arriving in South Africa in 1996 and a permanent resident since 1998. Richard is a Certified Compliance Professional of the Compliance Institute of South Africa (CISA) and sits on the CISA Board of Directors . Richard also chairs the CISA FAIS Executive Committee and also chairs the Regional Compliance Officer Forum for the Western Cape. Richard is a Certified Compliance Professional (CISA SA). Richard is also a regular contributor to the industry press and is the face behind Compliance Corner a monthly compliance column in the popular industry publication Money Marketing.
